Series Production of Innovative Pyrolysis Systems

In the field of pyrolysis technology, technological progress is advancing very rapidly. At the same time, global demand for efficient, climate-friendly technologies for the material and energy recovery of biogenic residual materials is increasing.

The pyrolysis systems currently used by BIOMACON are predominantly manufactured as complex, custom-built units. While this form of production allows for a high degree of flexibility and quality, it is associated with a very high share of manual labor, long lead times, and rising production costs. Due to growing international demand, this manufacturing concept is increasingly reaching its economic and organizational limits.

The aim of the project is to transition from the existing one-off and workshop-based manufacturing to a modular series production by redesigning the pyrolysis systems into a system-based architecture. Standardized modules are intended to enable cost-effective series production while simultaneously maintaining flexibility for different capacity ranges, applications, and future developments. In addition, the systems will be further developed through the use of new materials, lightweight design concepts, industrial design, and an IoT-based digital control system. This will enable transport by truck and sea container, worldwide remote monitoring, control, and maintenance, as well as a significant increase in efficiency, availability, and operational safety with reduced personnel requirements.

With the successful implementation of the project, BIOMACON will establish the basis for scalable, high-quality, and economically efficient series production of innovative pyrolysis systems in Lower Saxony. At the same time, new international markets will be opened up, and a sustainable contribution will be made to climate protection and industrial digitalization in line with Industry 4.0.

This project is funded by the European Union and the State of Lower Saxony through resources from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+) and/or the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
